JOB DESCRIPTION: Lead Person

JOB PURPOSE:

As a Lead Person (LP) at IFA Nurseries, you will be part of a team responsible for growing high-
quality conifer seedlings essential in sustainably regenerating forests across the Northwest. You will aid the managers in all aspects of daily nursery operations, from training employees in proper handling methods for packing, to running a transplanter with crew and assisting with lifting. LP’s will be responsible for communicating with equipment operator for seedling lot changes during both packing and transplanting while managing 15-20 employees for crop quality and care and keeping track of proper lot labeling while entering data.

JOB FUNCTION:

• Communicate and manage groups of 15-20 people per transplanter and/or packing lines
• Teach General Nursery Workers to handle trees properly, grade, keep roots straight, saw, pack, load trees and tie tree storage bags using the correct motions to minimize risk of injury
• During packing, periodically check bundles of seedlings to ensure the following are met:
  • o proper grading
    o root pruning standards
    o Seedling/bag count is correct
    o moisture is adequate
    o culls are appropriately being discarded¹
• Track seedlings lot changes on packing belts and in field during transplanting and notify clearly all personnel under your management of these changes
• Communicate openly with managers about seedling concerns and report issues with crews
• Fill out ipad and/or paperwork correctly and legibly
• Help enforce IFA safety standards and protocol
• Maintain cleanliness in workplace
• Perform General Nursery Worker duties when not busy with other tasks
• All other duties as assigned
